Mason County Amendment to Temporary Outdoor Public Event Public Hearing

Via our friend Frank Benaventa at the Port of Hoodsport (from Ken Wilson with the Port of Allyn):

As you may have heard (although we were advised that the Amendment to the Special Events would be carried over to the April 28th meeting without comment) the commissioners decided to have staff make their presentation and ask for comments on the 14th. Luckily, we were present. The Chamber stated their recommendation; the Port of Allyn submitted their letter of concern, as did I for the group as a whole. To recap, the County stated the intent was not to close down existing events, only to amend a code sorely outdated. Our position was stated as needing "stakeholder" representation prior to submission of any documentation. The outcome was a "continuation" to April 28th and an agreement with the commissioners to meet with county staff to discuss items of concern. To that end Barb Adkins has agreed to meet with us at the Port of Allyn on April 21st (Tues) @ 3 PM. Our challenge is that we are working with a document that is older than many who will be attending the meeting. Any data is from the same era. To compound that the commissioners would like a finished doucument prior to the event season (May). So we have our hands full, but if we can think out of the box on this one, there may be some wiggle room. One commissioner stated he wasn't against categorizing events, or something that would avoid the one size fits all concept. So lets meet and see if we can't come up with a working document we can all live with for current and future events in the county. Please only send one representative per festival, event, organization, or association. We only have an hour and a half with Barbara this time around. Call if you have any questions. Thanks,Ken * Frank can you invite any Festivals off the sign-off sheet that I have left off the mailing, including Oysterfest.

Is anyone able to attend? - Jolene.
