Union Marketing Committee Meeting Notes

Meeting - April 14th (2pm-4pm)

Union Map

Design of the map was reviewed and it was decided to focus the map just on the main strip of 106 from the Marina to Saint Andrews and parts of Dalby Road in order to include a larger close-up of the area. Numbers on the map will locate specific landmarks and businesses in those area as well as landmarks such as Dalby Waterwheel.

The back of the map will include a Business Directory that groups businesses by categories (lodging, etc.). A business will be able to include their name, phone number, and website. The five categories that businesses can be listed under will be Dining, Lodging, Recreation, Shopping and Services. There will also be premium spots along the side of the map that allow space for larger ads (that match the style and look of the map).

The map will include an insert of calendar of events that will include a premium space on the back of the card that will allow more space for sale including a solo ad.

James Bell will research print quotes before the next meeting.

Branding of Union

There was some discussion regarding the branding of Union. Most people agreed that a "green way of living" might be the direction we would like to go. A number of reasons were brought up, from the money savings for businesses in reduced energy costs to being able to protect Union's image in the wake of any sort bad publicity elsewhere in the county. The discussion was put on hold until the next marketing meeting or the completion of the map and calendar of events.

Visitor Information Signs

A short term solution for visitor information signs was put into place and signs should be produced and ready for distribution at the next meeting.

Bridge Closure

General consensus is that there isn't enough time and too many unknowns for the group to work around the bridge closures. Marketing will have signs up and distributed to businesses and have the map available for people to have at their businesses by the time the bridge is closed. We would like businesses to collect customer business cards or contact info and will brainstorm an incentive for next meeting (win free night stay, etc.)
